Our story

We’re a casual hole in the wall spot fixing all your coffee, toast and toastie needs. Call it a cliché but we truly believe in doing the simple things well here and what’s simpler than toast and toasties?

We start with our own house made sourdough bread and source local, seasonal produce to bring you a tasty menu of both familiar staples and more creative choices.

In New Zealand we really are spoilt for choice. Our suppliers are awesome and we’re lucky to serve Eighthirty coffee, Meyer cheese, Almighty juice, Hakanoa syrups and Karma drinks just to name a few.

It’s 2019 in the neighbourhood of Three Kings, behind a garage door in an unconventional space is where Cheese on Toast is born. Founders Steve Kennedy and Yang Yang had already spent the previous four years roaming Auckland and further afield serving life-changing toasties from their food truck.

Keen to stay put for a while, we wanted to create a laid back, approachable space for people to come and enjoy super tasty, quality food that wouldn’t break the bank. After almost three years of trading in Three Kings we got our hands on another little spot in Birkenhead and set about making it our own.

We’re absolutely stoked to provide our community comforting, high quality feel good food and drinks and wont stop any time soon!
